Overview
The Algarve is the closest reliable sun to Ireland, at under three hours direct to Faro. The coast changes character as you go: sandstone cliffs and coves in the west around Lagos and Carvoeiro, flatter sandbar beaches and quieter towns east towards Tavira. It has more golf courses than anywhere else in Portugal, and a long season either side of summer.
